The Finnish adventure smartphone brand, Adaia, has announced the start of its Daring Dozen competition in cooperation with Jeb Corliss, the renowned American base-jumper and wing-suit pilot.
The contest aims to find enthusiastic extreme and adventure sports hobbyists to help Jeb roadtest their prototypes. Each month Adaia judges will be selecting a winner to be part of the ADAIA DARING DOZEN. Winners will be invited to some of the world’s most exotic locations to put their smartphone through its paces. Corliss and Adaia will test the smartphones and report on its ruggedness. Corliss plans for this year’s activities will at least include a few base jumps in Asia and Europe as well as the development of smartphone shattering projects in Nevada, USA. The Adaia Daring Dozen will be chosen by a panel of which Corliss will be a member. The lucky and brave winners will get to test Adaian prototypes smartphones around the world.
Adaia’s smartphone is described as ”virtually unbreakable.”
“When I destroyed my fourth smartphone last year while sailing, I knew there was a need for a durable smartphone capable of weathering the toughest environments. Bringing Jeb’s talent onto the team to put our handset through its paces is vital to our business, as we get closer to bringing it to market. Jeb will demonstrate the importance and usability of features including military grade security, a top of the range navigation tracking system and an extended battery”, says Adaia co-founder and CEO Heikki Sarajärvi.
Adaia’s upcoming smartphone is based on the Android operating system and to be targeted mainly at adventure sports fans, from sailing to off-road motorcycling enthusiasts. This feature covers 90 percent of Earth’s land area.
In cooperation with Finnish Elektrobit the smartphone has been assigned with very advanced digital security features. It encrypts all data by default so that is protected from espionage and hacking.
The niche market of rugged smartphones is expected to grow to 5.7 million units by 2015, a 20 percent annual growth.
